Delicious Gluten-Free Pizza Recipe - Try It!

I decided to create this PIZZA recipe for the newer Gluten-Free eater: http://is.gd/5ffs3

Many people that are new to a Gluten-Free diet are thrown into the kitchen to make meals and bake much more than they had previously. Once you make one you will have your own ideas and the possibilities will be endless.

Turn off the TV?Tips for Families

Just when you think it can’t get any worse, it does. Even though last season’s hit shows were full of stuff you didn’t want your kids to watch or even know about, you turn on the television to find that this season’s shows are even more shocking. One of the best decisions I made years ago for myself and for my family was to cut down on television drastically.
As an author, researcher, and humanitarian, I am often approached by parents about a variety of issues. One topic that never ceases to come up is family issues such as how to promote family togetherness. As a family advocate and mother of three grown children, I speak from experience when I tell them that cutting down on or eliminating TV is the first step in strengthening the family. At first this may seem like a daunting task, but with a few simple tips, parents find it’s much easier than they suspected it would be.
First of all, there is the matter of reducing the amount of TV your family watches to just a few shows a week. In order to do this, I recommend a family meeting to discuss your goals as a family and as individuals. Then take an honest look at what everyone is getting out of television. Unless someone is a professional television critic in your family, chances are good that everyone will agree that they should watch less TV and spend more time pursuing their own goals. With a meeting like this, your kids and spouse will be much more likely to go along with their new lifestyle of less TV because they’ll understand the reason behind it.
I highly recommend implementing a service such as TiVo ® to help keep TV watching to a minimum. After deciding on the reasons for watching less TV, each family member can decide on a handful of shows to watch together as a family, plus a personal favorite or two. These will be the shows that you’ll record with TiVo ® and watch only during designated watching times—Friday nights or Sunday afternoons, for example. These should be shows that are entertaining and also enriching in some way. They don’t necessarily have to be historical documentaries, but avoid the shows which might be properly called “garbage.”
How do you stick to this reduced TV watching schedule? The best way is to come up with stimulating alternatives. Take the kids to the library or play board games. Have larger, longer family dinners at the table. Keeping everyone busy will get their minds off this missing element in their lives. I highly recommend using this time to get the kids to strengthen their reading skills and develop a strong interest in reading. Depending on their ages, read to them or have them read to you. Soon you might find that your family—gasp!—may prefer reading over watching TV.
I always recommend to parents the importance of setting a good example. If you want the kids to see how much fun reading can be, let them catch you in the middle of a book. If you want the kids to appreciate family togetherness, turn off your cell phone during family time. By diving enthusiastically yourself into activities besides watching television, you will influence your kids to do the same more powerfully than any words could.
There are so many reasons to dramatically cut down on television or to cut it out altogether. You’ll find in the end that your children will be much more likely to become avid readers and, as a result, perform better in school and in life. Instead of acting out the drama and degradation on popular TV, your kids will demonstrate the values you seek to pass on to them. You’ll also find your own productivity will increase, and oftentimes, a marriage will be sparked back to life by eliminating television. It may be a challenge at first to get used to your new lifestyle, but soon the benefits will be so rewarding that you’ll be too busy enjoying your higher quality of life that you won’t even think about the absence of television in it. Read to children ? a FUN suggestion

We know that kids love to have "reading aloud" time with them. How about letting your child or children read to you? Perhaps you can even let your child read to his or her pet or even a doll or stuffed animal. How about incorporating fun activities that focus on the above into your weekend plans? What a great way to make reading fun! And while you're at it, be sure to jump on-line for a quick minute to share the Danny the Dragon East Coast book tour video that I'm sure your kids will enjoy: http://bit.ly/O0TsZ

Author Tina Turbin donates her delightful storybook towards children's book restoration efforts.

Victoria, Australia book supplies were devastated by the wildfires of February 2009. As a result, a massive, international effort was undertaken to re-build the children's book collections in the local schools and libraries, and a very worthy effort it has proven to be. We are proud to announce that the children in the area will have the opportunity to get to know Danny and his traveling companion Skipper in the first book in the series: Danny the Dragon Meets Jimmy. Author Tina Turbin hopes that the book sparks the imaginations of the local children in the same way that it has done here in the States.

Danny The Dragon DREAMS-CD with classical music

I am VERY pleased to share that the full Mastering of Danny The Dragon DREAMS Cd has been fully Mastered and the CD cover is in design work as I type away here. Thank you Tom Morris at Morrissound Recording in Tampa, Florida! This is an amazing CD with my book being read by an extremely talented vocal-artist followed by a well chosen compilation of 10 original classical songs, composed by up and coming composers. This CD is for ANYONE and everyone, all ages. All the profits to this CD are going to a Cause that is very dear to my heart and I will be announcing the CAUSE, broadly and soon. All the legal mumbo-jumbo is just about totally complete first. All the composers on this CD will be announced and broadly promoted, so I ask you to support the Cause and the Artists once we release the details. Each composer currently has beautiful credits for movie and television. More support to them will only help their career and this Cause. When I am given the OK to lift the curtain, I will be sharing it all! Exciting! Tina

Danny the Dragon, Tampa Bay Rays and local libraries

There has been so much happening that I didn't mention the wonderful events that Danny the Dragon http://DannytheDragon.com participated in throughout the summer, as part of the Pinellas Libraries "Reading with the Rays" program, sponsored by the Tampa Bay Rays baseball team. What a joy and what smiles we brought to children's faces through the Danny the Dragon images and books on display. I have to say that the library is such a magical place for children. Have you taken your child to the library lately? While there, be sure to inquire about Danny the Dragon Meets Jimmy. Let your librarian know to stock a supply, and perhaps I can pay a visit for a "live" reading one day soon.

Children and others are thrilled with what's in store for Danny the Dragon

Both myself and many friends, other families and children all over are so excited with the speed with which Danny is taking off. Between a variety of promotional items including pencils, door hangers, posters, a lovely "mascot-style" costume, a Danny CD and even a commercial in the works, well, to put it simply, the sky is really no limit on Danny the Dragon. The summer season proved to be extremely rewarding, and now we eagerly await the autumn and winter months!

To be an inspiration to other moms

In my day-to-day activities I have a purpose to be an inspiration to other moms in some manner. As a mother, author, artist and researcher, yes it can be a task to juggle the various activities that come with all of the above, but in the end it is such a delight to hear from those of you out there that have been helped in some way by the activities that I'm engaged in. Please listen to tinaturbin.com/r/?2 , a radio interview about children and parenting. Yes, I have a very busy schedule!

Quite often I am asked how I manage my busy schedule between the various "hats" that I wear as an author, humanitarian, artist, researcher and mother just to name a few. To put it simply, my key to success involves surrounding myself with positive influences and positive people. I just don't have time to allow anything negative to bring me down and lose my pace! Visit http://TinaTurbin.com to read more about my insights on meeting goals and getting things done – I hope it inspires you to do the same.

Your quality of life

We all tend to get involved in the day-to-day rigors of our lives and lose sight of the importance of the quality of our lifestyle. One month can fly by in a flash, unless you actually take a moment to stop and reflect on your goals, and the direction you're headed; take a moment to reflect on your health and your happiness; reflect on your relationships and adjust as needed; take a walk and appreciate what's around you. Keep refining your quality of life and don't lose sight of the importance! More tips at www.TinaTurbin.com.

Danny the Dragon had a wonderful visit at St. Joseph's Hospital

The Danny the Dragon East Coast Book Tour is going strong and has proven to be incredibly successful! One particular stand-out event was the wonderful visit that Danny and I paid to the kids at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa. Family time is critical. Don't miss out.

With our hectic and busy work schedules, it has become a task in itself to ensure that time is scheduled for family. Taking time to appreciate loved ones with un-divided attention is an essential activity. Whether it's play time for 30 minutes with the kids or a dinner out with the family or even a date night with your spouse, take time to appreciate the ones you love. Time can go by rather quickly if you don't stop for a moment to do the above. For more information, visit http://TinaTurbin.com/blog.

Ladies, I've found a wonderful resource for non-toxic, mineral-infused, non-drying cosmetics. What a concept! Most of the products on the market today are filled with chemicals and artificial colors and various other harmful additives that, over time, slowly remove the healthful glow from our skin. On a continual basis, I am finding that many of the women that have founded gluten-free/wheat-free companies and/or campaigns were driven to do so as a result of a personal experience and a desire to help others. Bad news on the contrary, it is entirely possible to reverse the effects of aging. Quick! How many kinds of baking flours can you name?

Did you know that there's more to flour than just typical white flour? Many of us have heard of the un-healthiness of white flour, and of course for those of us with wheat allergies, that makes whole-wheat flour un-healthy as well, so what kinds of flours do we have to turn to? For starters, there's coconut flour and even legume flour, and a handful of others. Who would've thought that you could also get protein from your flour intake! I have so many areas of the arts that I am continually inspired by, one of those areas being writing, one of my most favorite activities to engage in.

May 3rd, 2009 Release Statement

Author: Tina Turbin

I am not only thrilled about my children’s book series Danny the Dragon but the young lives I am touching through my East Coast Book Tour are the inspiration to me to keep on writing for the big smiles and inquisitive minds. I am truly honored to be meeting wonderful children, parents and faculty or staff at many of the schools, hospitals and libraries all through these areas I am visiting.

As an author I am always looking outward and life’s impressions present me a constant flow of ideas I can create with as an author and artist. Recently my eyes opened even more to new areas I had not been all that familiar with and it has touched my heart, my care and consideration for others is greater now than even before.

I have been able to inspire other young “possible” authors and illustrators by my sheer presence, reading the book and answering their many wonderful questions. As a result I have now offered to help some select children with their own hidden urge to write.

My recent treat was a visit one of two Montessori Schools in the United States for the deaf, Blossom Montessori School for the Deaf. The Executive Director has no children of her own yet started this amazing school from her own deep desire and care. This school is absolutely amazing and the kids are beautiful and SO in communication. This school is catering to deaf children as well as children of deaf parents, and changing the poor educational statistics of many deaf children to a well educated graduate ready to address the world as an adult. I am helping support the school at their Goddess in the Garden Fund Raiser with Channel 9 News and Danny the Dragon will be given out a gift. I am returning to the school to meet with the kids and read while a staff member does sign.
